SHIFT the way you solve problems.

Organizations don't need more solutions looking for problems. They need a disciplined way to understand what is happening, focus on what matters and learn what actually works.

That is why Sylva developed SHIFT.

See → Hear → Identify → Focus → Test & Refine

Get close to the work before deciding how to change it.

A baker hands off a tray of dough to a coworker in a commercial kitchen, both focused on the work.
  1. SEE

Look at the work with fresh eyes.

People adapt. Workarounds become normal. Friction becomes familiar. SHIFT asks us to look again at the people, environment and what they are given to work with — without assuming the way things are is the way they need to be.

  2. HEAR

Create conditions for people to tell you what they know.

The people closest to the work possess knowledge the organization needs. But asking a question does not guarantee you will hear what people really think. SHIFT creates space for frontline employees, managers, leaders and others to surface useful knowledge without beginning with blame.

  3. IDENTIFY

Connect what you are seeing with what you are hearing.

Where is the friction? What has become normalized? Where do perspectives agree? Where do they conflict? We look across the people doing the work, the environment, and what people are given to work with. The objective is not to catalogue everything — it is to understand what is creating friction and what matters most.

  4. FOCUS

    Decide what matters now.

Organizations have limited time, attention and resources. SHIFT asks where attention can create meaningful movement now. Which friction can we influence? What would success look like?

  5. TEST & REFINE

    Try. Learn. Improve.

A recommendation isn’t the same thing as learning. SHIFT favors practical changes that can be tested where the work happens — then refine, scale or adjust based on what the people doing the work experience.

SHIFT isn't a straight line.

Testing may reveal something we failed to See. Hearing a new perspective may change what we Identified. Better understanding may shift the Focus. That is not failure. That is learning.

Build the ability to solve the next problem.

The immediate challenge matters. So does what the organization learns from solving it. Over time, teams can become better at noticing friction, surfacing useful knowledge, distinguishing symptoms from conditions and testing before they scale.

SHIFT is intended to build capability, not dependence.

SHIFT can start small.

A single point of friction. A working session. An operational improvement. A larger organizational challenge. The scale may change, but the discipline remains the same.
